Cognitive Hypnotherapy in Henley on Thames
Cognitive Hypnotherapy - What is it?
Cognitive Hypnotherapy, created by the Quest Institute’s Trevor Silvester, is very different from traditional hypnotherapy. Instead, it uses recent research and discoveries from Evolutionary Psychology, Cognitive Theory, Positive Psychology and NLP and Hypnosis, to create a framework for therapy. We also use Wordweaving™ (also designed by Trevor Silvester) which is a very powerful method of creating hypnotic language patterns using information learned from the client.

Henley Hypnotherapy uses Cognitive Hypnotherapy - the most effective therapy of all
This graph was shown at the 2007 NCH conference by Donald Robertson. It shows the results of the biggest meta-analysis of studies conducted to show the effectiveness of the different therapeutic approaches. The measure on the left is "Cohen's d" which is a complex statistical measure of what researchers call "effect size", basically how much effect or impact the therapy had on average measured across different variables such as heart rate, blood pressure, anxiety, depression, etc. It's a sophisticated way of crunching numbers from lots of different tests to arrive at a single average measurement. Hence studies on hypnotherapy for high blood pressure can be combined with hypnotherapy for insomnia and compared against CBT or psychoanalysis for a range of different problems.
The data all comes from The Benefits of Psychotherapy (1982) by Smith et al., probably the most influential study in the history of psychotherapy research. It is still widely referenced by other studies.
The graph shows that cognitive and hypnotherapy approaches are by far the most effective and so by combining them as Henley Hypnotherapy does using Cognitive Hypnotherapy, we can see why we get such amazing results.
Neuro-Linguistitic Programming
Using Cognitive Hypnotherapy in Henley on Thames with NLP, we discover how the client is doing the problem in order to help them do something else and find a solution. Success or failure isn’t an accident, the results we get come from what we think, believe and do. One aspect of NLP is that it gives us the tools to replicate the process of a successful person, in order to achieve success for ourselves. It also allows us to be more aware of our own thoughts that direct our actions and also ways that other people influence our behaviour.
Emotional Freedom Technique
EFT involves gently tapping on particular points along meridians of the body. One theory is that any negative emotional state causes a blockage of the body’s energy. By tapping, we release our natural energy and free ourselves from the problem. 95% of people who learn it with Henley Hypnotherapy, find it enormously beneficial in helping them feel more resourceful and in control.
Since the mind is connected to the body, it’s obvious that what we think affects it. Negative thoughts lead to stress and an overloaded immune system, resulting eventually in ill-health. Releasing those negative thoughts and replacing them with positive ones creates the conditions necessary to rebuild health.
Life Coaching
Life Coaching is useful for people who have already benefited from therapy and who want to maintain focus and motivation through goal setting. Combining it with other therapeutic techniques it provides an external perspective and a powerful support system to keep you moving in the right direction to achieve results fast.
Cognitive Hypnotherapy
So instead of the more conventional ‘one size fits all’, with Cognitive Hypnotherapy in Henley on Thames, we use a range of techniques from many different disciplines to achieve the quickest, most effective tools for permanent change, tailored to each individual.
